Ernesto Diaz-Infante’s third release for KSE, a new studio album called WISTFUL ENTRANCE, WISTFUL EXIT, is yet another unique exploration from the internationally-acclaimed San Francisco-based guitarist and composer. Mr. Diaz-Infante is the ONLY artist KSE ever brought in from out-of-state for our series of concerts in 2011-2012, and with good reason: NO ONE anywhere does what he does. With the mind of an outside-the-box contemporary composer and a virtuoso technique on the guitar and bajo sexto, he has the ability to bring into reality STATES OF BEING through his music. His first KSE album, Emilio, was a Twombley-esque painting-in-sound that captured the insights of a quirky uncle, a jagged staccato finger-picked experience; this new album, though not unlike his “mantra strumming” on the surface, creates a very different feel from any of his previous albums. It’s a delicate, spacious, minimal album but also rich and close-miked so that the wood and the 12-string metal of the instrument come through the speakers and into your listening space. It’s like feeling the ocean waves coming, one after another, each one different, each one coming regularly but at slightly irregular intervals, while you are standing waist-deep in the water and can feel the undertow and taste the salt. You are part of the rhythm and move with it.

Ernesto conceived of these pieces during a period of time when he was dealing with death in the family and was temporarily left alone. His realization that “Often life keeps us in a state where we don’t face mortality” led him to create music that documented  “an opening of time.” Each moment is expanded and explored until time fades away and we reach an eternal now….the feeling of being waist-deep in the waves and becoming one with them.

Another stunning and original creation from Ernesto Diaz-Infante. Three extended pieces that will have you waist deep in the  sea of wood and wire, one with the rhythm, in a space where time has been opened, and you enter….WISTFUL ENTRANCE, WISTFUL EXIT.
