The signature KSE chapbook style grew out of necessity–like a film-maker whose style has been adapted to the use of short-ends, we used what we had and made a virtue of it (I also think of the “herms” of Robert Indiana, creating a form based on available materials). We’ll continue to issue a steady stream of works in that format, but now we are joining the 21st century (to some extent, with one foot always firmly placed in the 70’s DIY-punk aesthetic with a twist of D. A. Levy’s mimeo-underground and, of course, Warhol) with a new series of 8″ x 11″ professionally published poetry collections, containing a number of pieces each, both brand-new poems and republications of long-out-of-print pieces which have been requested. These have been carefully re-formatted for the larger page with appropriate new fonts, and I must say that THIS is how open-field poetry should appear on the page. As with the four-volume complete poems of Larry Eigner or the old Cape Goliard/Grossman  editions of Paul Blackburn and Charles Olson which were so influential to me in my development (I carried around a copy of Blackburn’s IN, ON, OR ABOUT THE PREMISES as a teenager), the 8 x 11 page is large enough to allow the pieces to breathe and to emphasize the visual aspect of the open-field page.

The three six-page poems collected here each present a “junk sculpture from the new gilded age” (to quote the title of an earlier spoken-word album of mine) from the shards of consciousness of characters living in these culturally rich cities on the Gulf Coast: Gulfport-Biloxi/Pensacola/Panama City. Smell the salt air, taste the shrimp, get cheated out of your overtime….available NOW. We’ll be rolling out more of these large-format in the coming months/years…thanks for your support all these years as I’ve issued the smaller format chapbooks, the spoken-word poetry albums, and the poetry-and-music albums.

If you don’t have any of my poetry chapbooks or books, THIS is the one to get….
