BUTTERFLY MIND (KSE #173)

volume 58 in the Sound Library Series

hand-numbered, hand-assembled edition of 47 copies

inspired by the legendary 1971 album “Reachin” by ARCESIA

Written here in San Antonio in the summer of 2010,  BUTTERFLY MIND floats around and lands where it’s least expected. The dogs are aware, the seafood is contaminated, the lights are left on in the rooms we’ve vacated, my wing is on the mend, and there’s a limit to my sky. And wherever I turn, Homeland Security is demanding an ID, demanding proof of my citizenship. Twice as many chupacabra sightings this year. Entering the day with an absinthe hangover. BUTTERFLY MIND…it’s exactly what you think it is!

a major new album from a major figure in the international free-jazz/post-jazz experimental-music scene

“micro-saxo-phone. edition III” was recorded especially for Kendra Steiner Editions, and it’s been a privilege to work with Mr. Harth on this project—-he never fails to inspire me with both his imagination and his work ethic, and overall, both his artistic work and his life seem to be dedicated to GOING BEYOND WHAT SEEMS POSSIBLE

there’s enough depth and content on this album to fill ten albums by lesser mortals… as John Ashbery once commented on the work of Gertrude Stein,  ” if, on laying the book aside, we feel that it is still impossible to accomplish the impossible, we are also left with the conviction that it is the only thing worth trying to do.”
